Mala Bracelets
Objective: swbat create their own mala bracelet using 108 beads, tassels, and other adorning pieces, setting an intention for their future.
What are Mala Beads? Mala beads have been used for centuries as prayer beads in may cultures. Commonly strung with 108 beads, they serve as meditative talismans with each bead representing a repetition of a mantra or intention. Mala beads are worn as protection against evil spirits, to purify ones mind, body and words and to simply remind you of your personal and spiritual intentions.
Why are there 108 beads?
108 is the number of universe. 1 being the individual. 0 representing nothingness. 8 symbolizing infinity. It is believed that saying the same thing 100 times or more allows you to believe and the universe to receive.

How do I use my Mala?
A lot of people own Mala beads but do not know how to meditate with them. Here is a simple guide. Of course whatever feels comfortable for you is what is best. Find a peaceful space where you will not be disturbed. Light a candle or burn some sage or incense. Sit comfortably in a cross legged position and turn your attention inwards. Hold your Mala in your left hand to start. Begin your meditation by rolling your thumb and finger over the first wood bead after the guru/anchor area. Say your mantra. One that resonates with you...very simply "I AM ________". Keep it positive. Remember positive attracts positive. The guru/anchor area is not counted. Continue reciting your mantra through the wood beads...when you get to the semi precious stone...pause and reflect...check in...where are your thoughts? Continue until you reach the guru/anchor area and reverse the direction. Repeat this cycle as often as you need.
