Digital Transfer
objective: students will be able to take their images out of the computer, publishing their work through a variety of transfer processes.
What happens to an image once it is taken out of the computer, cell phone or other media device? How does the image change? How does the viewer change? What is the point of printing and publishing your photographs in the 21st century? How has that changed in our world throughout the past 10-20 years?
What is a digital transfer? Once an image is printed, it can be manipulated further to become interactive with another material. A digital transfer can be done on a variety of surfaces and have become very popular in recent years. Print shops are now transferring prints onto canvas, wood, metal, glass, tile, clothing and other surfaces!
Often times, a digital transfer has ripped or torn edges to make the photograph look antique. Additionally, areas that are white in a photograph may be translucent when printed on wood, showing the wood grain and allowing the material to really be a piece of the artwork!
