metal pressing
objective: Students will create a metal pressed relief focusing on texture, using ink to enhance details of the design.
history:
Metal pressing is the process of placing flat sheet metal in either blank or coil form into a stamping press where a tool and die surface forms the metal into a shape. Stamped parts were used for mass-produced bicycles in the 1890s. Stamped bicycle parts were being imported into the United States from Germany in 1890. U.S. companies then started to have stamping machines custom built by U.S. machine tool makers.
In the case of our class, we will be pressing metal into a design or shape focusing on texture. You will be able to determine what type of image is shown through the metal.

You can also use this technique to create unique jewelry pieces. You can add a hole to these pieces to make them wearable.
